What is a Men’s Retreat all About?

Faith is a journey! We can never know exactly where it will take us, but if we are intentional about walking the path with Christ, we have hope that it will lead us to something good.

Initiated by alumni from Manhattan College/University over three decades ago and expanded over the recent years to include many men outside the Alumni ranks from all paths of life [ex., businessmen, first responders, military, CEO’s, government employees, clergy and religious, parish leaders, and particularly from Men’s Ministry Groups in Catholic parishes.]

Our themed annual retreat begins with a buffet dinner from @6:00 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday evening and concludes Sunday morning with the celebration of Mass– in between are five witness talks by a variety of speakers centered on the theme who share their own individual journey, unfolding their struggles, sufferings, renewal and/or change to finding hope, strength, direction and peace! After each witness talk there are opportunities to join small breakout sessions with fellow men who share their reactions and relatable personal stories in the context of the talks.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as overnight accommodations, are provided; along with time for Adoration, Confession, Celebration of the Eucharist, Anointing, and quiet time to visit the Gift shop, sit with Our Lord in the Chapel or walk the beautiful grounds of the Retreat facility.

Many Retreatants over the years have found the annual retreat an important opportunity to either find a relationship with Jesus Christ, or strengthen that bond; helping them in relationships with family, friends, work colleagues and others, as well as discerning their own faith journey in the coming year.

The retreat schedule is a structured to foster the encounter with ordinary people sharing stories and experiences of trying to live the Gospel amidst the challenges of the modern world. It’s a simple but moving experience. It is also a very casual atmosphere and you may share in the discussion as much or as little as you’d like – or not at all, if that is your preference.

Our Retreat theme for 2025 is :  “So we have known and believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and those who abide in love abide in God, and God abides in them”   1 John 4:16

We hope that you will plan to join us for our 34th year, the 2025 retreat on September 26th to 28th, Friday to Sunday, at Mt. Alvernia Retreat Center Wappingers Falls NY.

Come back to our Website soon for Further Updates on our Retreat in late September!
